African Digital Summit Drives Innovation with Storytelling and AI

Casablanca – The African Digital Summit’s second day was a powerful testament to the continent’s commitment to harnessing technology for transformative growth.
Thought leaders and innovators converged in Casablanca today to share insights in efforts to redefine Africa’s digital landscape. Building on the momentum of Tuesday’s impactful discussions, today’s talks uncovered practical strategies and innovative solutions essential for driving progress across the region.
Kicking off the day, Amine Raihani, Business Partnerships Manager for North Africa at TikTok, emphasized the impact of storytelling in shaping consumer behavior.
“The power of storytelling is key in shaping consumer behavior, as demonstrated by [leading wholesaler] Marjane. Similarly, beauty communities, like those fostered by L’Oréal, can lift a brand’s influence and drive purchases,” Raihani stated.
He encouraged brands to tap into cultural movements, using platforms like TikTok to create and dominate cultural moments that resonate deeply with consumers.
The role of AI in digital ecosystems
In another pivotal session, Angelos Galanakis, Regional Head of Agencies at Google, addresses the importance of AI in shaping digital ecosystems.
“15% of Google searches are new every day, and this has been the case for a decade,” he said. “That’s where AI comes in – to help us understand and respond to the ever-evolving needs of users. AI’s mission is to make these moments more accessible and helpful for everyone.” Galanakis highlighted how AI is becoming a critical tool for businesses across Africa, driving more personalized and efficient solutions.
Later on, Maureen Khoury, Senior Business Applications Strategy Manager for Central, Southeast Europe, and Middle East & Africa (CEMA) at Microsoft, tackled a pressing issue for businesses.
“Employee retention is a huge cost. You need to pay to attract higher talent, and those costs keep increasing,” she said.
Khoury further stressed the importance of leveraging technology to personalize customer journeys while building strong internal cultures that reduce turnover and attract top talent, particularly in Africa’s evolving job market.
Transforming media through digital innovation
Bissan Kairat, Marketing and TV Program Director at Al Aoula, highlighted the importance of long-term investment in innovation.
According to her, “It is through the expansion of resources and continued investment in innovation, driven by a long-term strategy that has been in implementation for at least 15 years, that we have been able to harness new platforms and recruit more young talent. This is crucial in amplifying Moroccan identity and content on a global scale today.”
She emphasized that including younger generations is essential for staying relevant in the rapidly evolving media landscape, where digital transformation is not just about technology, but about preserving and promoting cultural heritage through modern platforms.
Celebrating Africa’s digital innovators
A significant highlight of today’s agenda is the introduction of the African Digital Awards, marking a shift from the previous Moroccan-only awards to a pan-African celebration of innovation.
These awards aim to recognize outstanding contributions to the digital ecosystem across the continent, celebrating individuals and organizations that have demonstrated excellence in technology and innovation.
A bright future ahead
As the journey continues, today’s session marked yet another pivotal step toward the African Digital Summit’s quest for unlocking the continent’s vast potential of creativity and innovation in a wide range of sectors.
Ultimately, the African Digital Summit hopes to be an incubator of impact and change. According to its organizers, the summit’s vision is to inspire participants to move from being mere spectators of the rapidly unfolding technological transformations to becoming active architects of change in their communities and countries.
The goal, they insist, is to transform visionary concepts into actionable realities by harnessing the power of technology and collaboration to address the unique challenges facing Africa today.
