St. Maria Goretti Alumna Ekhomu Redefines Security Leadership – THISDAYLIVE

Dr. Victoria Ekhomu, a pioneering security expert and Group Managing Director of Transworld Security Limited, has spent her career breaking barriers in an industry historically dominated by men.

Recently, she was honored with the prestigious Life Patron award by the St. Maria Goretti Old Girls Association (SMAGOGA) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to her alma mater, St. Maria Goretti Grammar School, Benin City.

Having served five years as the Lagos Branch President and four years as the National President, her dedication to the alumni association has strengthened its impact and reinforced her lifelong commitment to giving back.

Receiving the award was a deeply fulfilling moment for Ekhomu. “Being recognized by one’s community is a profound honor. It is a testament to the work I have done and the commitment I have shown to my alma mater,” she reflected.

Her early education played a crucial role in shaping her values, intelligence, and discipline.

Raised by parents who valued education, she developed a strong academic foundation, especially under the guidance of her mother, a dedicated teacher.

Her formative years at St. Maria Goretti Grammar School were instrumental in building her character.

Under the leadership of Sister Henrietta Powers, the school nurtured young girls to become leaders, professionals, and changemakers across various industries.

Ekhomu’s path to success was not without challenges, especially in the security industry, where women were often overlooked.

However, she defied expectations and shattered multiple ceilings.

She became the first woman to chair the ASIS Nigeria Chapter 206, despite initial resistance from male colleagues.

Her exceptional contributions and leadership earned her the Most Valuable Member Award from the chapter.

She also became the first female in Africa to attain the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification, for which she received the Goldstar Award from ASIS International.

Her influence expanded beyond Nigeria as she was appointed the Senior Regional Vice President for West, Central, and Northern Africa and later became the African Advisory Council Chairman for ASIS International.

She was the first African woman to serve on the ASIS Foundation Board of Trustees for six years, further cementing her global impact in security leadership.

Her achievements have earned her numerous accolades, including The Karen Marquez Award for Excellence, the Lifetime Achievement Award from ASIS Region 11b and Chapter 206, and the Zalud Memorial Award of Excellence by the International Foundation of Protection Officers (IFPO).

Beyond personal achievements, Dr. Ekhomu has ensured that her company, Transworld Security Ltd, and her institution, The School of Management & Security, are recognized for excellence.

Both organizations won major industry awards in 2023, including the Outstanding Security Performance Award (OSPAS) and the Most Trusted Security Services Company Award by International Standard Excellence Awards.

As a trailblazer, Dr. Ekhomu has paved the way for women in security, proving that expertise and determination can dismantle long-standing gender barriers.
